NXT Women’s Championship

In 2013, Stephanie McMahon introduced the NXT Women’s Championship, which has seen eight reigns and eight different champions along with two vacancies. One of those vacancies is unique from most other title vacancies in that it was caused by the reigning champion voluntarily relinquishing the championship because she was called up to the main roster. No one woman has held the championship more than once. Asuka held the title the longest at an unprecedented 510 days. Kairi Sane is the current champion.

In June 2013, Paige defeated Emma in a tournament final to win the inaugural championship. She was subsequently stripped of the NXT Women’s Championship when she defeated AJ Lee for the Divas Championship. This set up a second tournament that was won by Charlotte Flair. The title’s next vacancy came following NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, when then-undefeated champion Asuka was forced to relinquish the title due to a collarbone injury. The title has had three different holders since then.

Current Reign

At NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4, Kairi Sane defeated Shayna Baszler for the championship. She has yet to defend the title, but her first defense will come at Evolution against Baszler.
